Internet content syndication is the controlled placement of the same content on multiple partnering Internet destinations. "Controlled placement" signifies that content itself is placed on the destination sites -- to some degree, those placements are directed by the content owner. "Multiple destination" placement of content is used to increase licensing fees and audience exposure. Destinations partner with the content owner by either contributing value in return for valuable content or by sharing revenue.
Internet content syndication has the following benefits:
Content creators earn more revenue, either through license fees from multiple publishing partners or through the aggregation of larger audiences for advertising, than they do with a single-site distribution.
Publishers receive higher-quality content for their Web sites on an affordable basis.
Advertisers increase the effectiveness of their campaigns by aggregating large but targeted Internet audiences within a compatible content environment.
Users, the most important constituent of the content industry, benefit from more content of higher quality that is more easily found on the Internet.

The mission of the Internet Content Syndication Council (ICSC) is to promote the Internet content syndication industry's growth by improving the understanding of what Internet content syndication is and how it works within the advertising, media, creative and consumer communities it serves.
The ICSC seeks ways to increase the awareness of Internet content syndication as a means of revenue generation for digital publishers, as a mode of marketing for advertisers and as a system of quality content provision to consumers and networks worldwide. By establishing a "fund of knowledge" on outcomes, case studies and best practices for industry participants, the ICSC provides an objective third-party point of view on Internet content syndication as a benefit to all.
The ICSC is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to advanced business ideas, thought leadership and professional networking among content producers, publishers and advertisers. Based in New York City, the Council is a networking group of business leaders in content creation, publishing and advertising, and it is governed by a board of advisors, a chairperson and several committees dedicated to advancing knowledge in a certain area of Internet content syndication. Council members are the leaders at their organizations in Internet content syndication. Represented companies include:
